oooh interesting development. just took the liner out and net off to give it a rub down before i get the paint, and its got US and some numbers marked inside the shell. so though the liners a modern blue thing the shell could be US. perhaps 70's or something? seems to have patchs of paint where its had dents repaired etc.

well couldnt find anything good in a spray can got chatting to the chap at the model shop.... and he ended up recommending a beginners airgun package they had for a tenner.

took AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS to get it working right and when it did..... its kind of pants. it doesnt cover brilliantly on the first pass, probably because its a small one, so would have to go over a area a few times. at that point i got pissed off and just got out a brush hehe. the dabbing method worked alot faster and better. Then threw the cork on, and probably went overboard hehe. but im sure it'll brush off. about 20 mins from it being touch dry to brush the cork off and about 2 hrs 20 from being able to do a second coat. I think the airbrush will be much better suited for the 2nd coat when time isnt so much of the essence.

heres a pic straight after its 2nd coat. think i left to much cork on but still looking pretty good. will do the next few with a airbrush and it should be done. also found time to convert my thompson to large bat's. take of a stupud sticker they put on it saying it cant be sold outside china. and finish a few other bits i needed to do. very productive day

That looks spot on mate, certainly much better than mine! I might have to redo mine to get more cork on. 8)

How did you change the connector on the Thompson? Mine needs done too, but I'm not very good at electrical thing, more mechanically minded. Probably why I prefer gas guns.

thanks glad it looks ok. some patches are a little thicker than others but the imperfect looks probably more accurate hehe. 3rd coats just gone on.(2nd coat over the cork).

will leave it over night now and airbrush at least 2 more coats on over the next few days then it should be done. then just need a leather chinstrap and bam done. as its looking fairly good will not bother covering it with a helmet net yet.

As for the thompson, if you go to http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/le ... ctors.html you can order tamiya connectors. then you snip off the current small one, strip the 2 bits of wire back. Put on the metal ends with pliers, and slip them into the plastic connector and off you go. 5 mins of work.

i was thinking of getting the 506 para helmet from SoF, would i need to put cork on it? because i was thinking once i have got the helmet net and maybe the first aid kit on it it wouldnt show, also i may get some camo for it.

Now a 'namsofter. I have an M72 L.A.W. for sale for 110 posted, PM if interested.

That sounds odd - mix brown and black together and you get dark brown, so why would you call it Olive (greenish) Drab (desaturated)?

Baffling gen there!

I would have thought the clue would be in the name Olive drab - descritive enough - whether it's a greeny-brown or a browny-green, it surely must have green in it!

If your after paint for an M1 i can recommend http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M1-M2-M1C-Ranger-Airborne-Infantry-Helmet-Paint-Cork_W0QQitemZ140280631711QQihZ004QQcategoryZ4722QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Great paint...though it has to be applied using a paintbrush, which you have to stiple on. Very easy great result.
